Introduction | 3rd August 2010

With a keen interest in history and architecture, this project started back in January 2006, journeying through Malaysia and Singapore, tracking down and photographing prewar (WW2) era locations that normally laid unseen, ignored, or were perhaps totally off limits to the normal person on the street. This slightly strange hobby quickly evolved into a general documentary of our built landscape in all its forms, dating from any period.

My primary focus however always revolves around documenting derelict prewar buildings. Sadly there is a serious lack of interest for built heritage in Malaysia, with many sites left abandoned or already earmarked for demolition. With not much hope for these places, the only thing left to do is document them in photographs before they are lost forever.

Top 3 featured locations :

Harvard house: now abandoned, it was the estate managers home back in the 1930's.

The Bighouse: an amazing classical styled plantation mansion abandoned on a small estate.

The Mall: a hulking modern retail project that went belly up over 10 years ago.

  Special Feature : Pudu Gaol
with the current public outrage of the coming demise of Pudu jail in Kuala Lumpur, here is my explore from back in 2009, of the jail before most of the general public and demolitionists got their grubby paws on it.
