Balai Zahara | 1858

Located in the grounds of the Istana Besar in Johor Bahru, this building was built in 1858 and once was the royal audience chamber. It was later used as a religious school in the 80's but now stands abandoned. With the roof holed and floor boards rotten it's in a terrible state.

Balai Zaharah had a sister building, the Istana Zahara, this was amazingly demolished some years ago.
The interior of Balai Zahara has a vine and flower relief theme on the walls, the front iron work gate also carries this theme.

For those wishing to explore within, use great caution. The floor boards are a potential death trap. Being in a public park with easy access to the interior, I'm suprised nobody has been seriously injured yet.
