Malacca Townhouse | 1930's

This was an interesting two storey house in Malacca. There was no evidence of a main staircase and the only other route to the 1st floor was a badly decayed set of wooden steps to the rear of the house restricting us to the ground floor.
The original main stairs to the 1st floor most probably was a wooden spiral staircase, which would have been an amazing structure, combining art and engineering into a functional bit of sculpture. I am told no nails or screws would have been used in its construction. Because of its quality and design, these spiral staircases are usually the first things to be stolen.

Seeing that much of the original decorative features had gone, an interesting creative piece of art made up for it a little bit. The art work depicted an orange hand throwing a paper plane. Clever.
