Sea view villa
Visit date: 2009
Year of build: 1920's 1930's
Status: Abandoned

This great little house was called "Tiong Hoo Villa", which was clearly marked on the pediment.

Standing guard outside the main door was a pig-tailed macaque. These monkeys are trained to climb up coconut trees by their human owners to harvest coconuts. This poor little ape was chained to a dead tree in the hot midday sun. He was not a happy monkey.
The interior of the house was filled with bird cages along the walls and hanging from the ceiling. The floor was carpeted in bird crap and feathers. My main worry was inhaling some kind of airborne avian disease. Because of this I didn't hang about long inside. I doubt the bird farm was legal and was probably an ilegal squat.
