Chinese
cinema
Visit date:
Jan 2010
Year of build:
1934
Status:
Mothballed
Previously a Chinese Opera theatre stood here, then
in 1934 the site was turned into a Chinese cinema. The
only thing operating from here now is a mini barbers
shop, which is located in the old ticket booth.
The building itself is a pretty simple 2 storey hall
structure, with touches of classical and Art Deco in
the frontal elevation. A band of raised Chinese characters
decorates the entrance way. The letters are made up
of a mosaic of ceramic pieces.
The interior of the building is pretty bland, and has
seen various alteration works over the years. |
