About
| 10 September 2010
This project started back in January 2006 with the primary goal
to locate, research and record in photographs, Malaysia's fast disappearing
(pre WW2) built heritage. I love these old buildings, the objects
within them and the stories they can tell.
It's a sad fact that so many of these amazing structures, in their
vast array of architectural styles, are largely not seen as anything
worth saving. Many locations are merely left vacant, abandoned and
ultimately demolished. So it really is a race against time to track
these places down before they disappear.
In recent years I have also started to photograph modern built structures,
my favorite being abandoned shopping malls. Being inside these large
structures of retail and yet be totally devoid of life, is strangely
fascinating. I'm a bit of a 'post apocalyptic' movie buff, so this
may help explain things.
Ultimately I hope to get this project published in book form. What
you see on this website is a mere taster of what I have explored
and photographed. Also the low resolution of internet images really
doesn't do anything justice. When and if this book thing gets off
the ground, you will know here first; so keep watching. |

FAAQ
| Frequently
asked anticipated questions
What
happened to the old website that had more stuff?
Essentialy it got too big. It had over 100 location reports, equaling
over 1000 photos, it simply became a pain to manage.
Do
you use HDR & tone-mapping?
No
What
camera do you use?
Depending on situation and logistics, I use either a DSLR or
a medium format camera.
What's
the worst experience you have had while do this project?
Getting attacked by hundreds of fleas. Those critters are real
terrors! The best thing you can do in such cases, is exit the
location and break out the bug spray. If you don't have any bug
spray, well then you're in for one hell of a shitty week.
