Pengerang is located in the southern state of Johore in Malaysia. The Pengerang defended area lies to the east of Singapore defending the eastern entrance leading on to the Royal Naval base.

The Pengerang battery had a superior strategic position. With its observation posts perched atop Bukit Pengerangs 600ft hill, it provided unequaled views for spotting and engaging any enemy targets.

Today Bukit Pengerang has one of Malaysia's Sea Surveillance Systems (MSSS) sited on its peak. This radar system overseas shipping traffic and security monitoring activities within the territorial waters of Malaysia.
